James Gurney

James Gurney  is the creator and the artist for the books dinoptopia, James has been paining dinosaurs for a number of years and his books have been made into a TV series of the same name, I wont go into too much detail about the story of dinotopia but all you need to know is that dinosaurs and man live in harmony on an island called dinotopia, for more info about dinotopia check out www.dinotopia.com

One of the reasons I researched James Gurney is not just because his paintings of dinosaurs are awesome its because he can give a great deal of character to his creatures to give them an individual look which is something I’m looking to do for my own dinosaurs.

I looked in to how gurney get his information and inspiration and I found an Imagine FX magazine that told me just what i needed to know.

I also decided to try and get in touch with James to see what I should keep an eye out for if I manage to visit The Natural History Museum London and he wrote back saying;

Hi, Edward,

I just found your email, and it’s probably too late, but I’ve only been once to the London Nat Hist Museum (with little kids) and probably didn’t get as much time there as you will have had. There’s inspiration everywhere there. Don’t miss the Victoria and Albert Museum nearby, too.
